For my article on elevator pitches, well, despite their value being questioned by some, there's no doubt for me that being able to articulate what you do and what value that brings to the organisation is a necessary capability.
For intranet managers specifically, often in an amorphous role, it's even more important, but I don't think a lot of intranet managers have this in their reportoire.
Stepping back from the article itself, defining roles more clearly is one aspect that's been driving a lot of thoughts around future directions for intranets, including the names and descriptions as discussed by many in my post earlier this week ('Is the intranet dead?')
