It seems most intranet teams are only recently really getting to grips with SharePoint 2010, but the Software Development Lifecycle marches on. Mary-Jo Foley writes for ZDNet:
Microsoft is aiming to release to manufacturing its Office 15 products — the next version of its client, its Office servers (including SharePoint Server 15), and its Office 365 bundle with the latest features — before the end of calendar 2012. “SharePointaholic” Bjorn Furuknap, a senior solutions architect and founder of USPJ Academy, is betting it’s going to be called SharePoint 2013 due to its very late in the year (2012) delivery target.
1. SharePoint 15/2013 will include a new SharePoint Apps Marketplace
2. SharePoint Apps will support multi-tenant installations so that hosting providers can make available the same set of applications to multiple customers
3. SharePoint 15 gets a new Education module/option making the product more of a head-to-head competitor with Moodle, which is an open-source course-management system
I had heard some odd rumours that Microsoft wouldn't call it SharePoint '2013' because of the bad luck associated with '13', but that's a bit whimsy and superstitious, and even more so for a multi-billion-dollar software company.
Either way, SharePoint 13? The release of SharePoint 2010 resulted in a lot of inertia for intranet teams as they weren't sure whether to build on 2007, or wait to see how good (or bad) 2010 was. 2010 is leagues better than 2007, of course, in almost every way, but it's a long way from perfect.
